Pilates Matwork Classes
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of exercise which concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. This helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. The key elements of pilates are the abc’s alignment, breathing and core stability.
Pilates concentrates on posture, balance and flexibility. In Pilates the chance of injury is much lower than with other more strenuous forms of exercise. Pilates also focuses on the mind-body connection. While doing the various exercises your mind is aware of your breathing and the way your body moves.
Every exercise is built around the eight basic principles:
- Breathing
- Concentration
- Control
- Centring
- Flowing Movement
- Precision
- Stamina
- Relaxation
What we offer at the clinic
Each class has a maximum of six people so each person gets a hands on, personalised experience. Beginners are welcome. We work with small equipment such as the foam roller, pilates ring, bands and balls to challenge the body in a safe environment.
Assessment
In order to attend a class you will need to complete an assessment with the instructor. This lasts thirty minutes and you will discuss any issues or injuries you may have as well as look at the basics of pilates so you are ready to join a class. All classes are one hour long.
